Assessment Workshops
Introduction to Arts Assessment
Creating a valid, reliable performance based assessment program
is a long-term process. This workshop provides a foundation upon
which participants deepen their assessment knowledge and skills.
Participants explore the purposes of assessment in their school or
district and begin to examine assessment theory. Observation
checklists, along with an introduction to validity, reliability, and
forced choice assessments are included.
Assessment Theory in Practice
This workshop builds on the knowledge and skills developed in
"Introduction to Arts Assessment." The fundamentals of
rubrics are introduced and successful and unsuccessful examples are
examined. Participants discuss the component parts of performance
assessment and begin putting theory into practice by developing
measurable tasks for use in their own classroom, school, or
district.
Planning for Arts Assessment
In this culmination of the assessment workshops, participants
review general assessment practices as they relate to the arts. They
discuss the nature and types of rubrics while examining sample
rubrics for the arts. Participants are guided through the creation
of rubrics to meet the criteria for their classroom, school, or
district and gain the skills to implement and adapt an assessment
program to meet the changing needs of their education environment.
